Steamed Vegetable Buns
This recipe is located at the "straightforward recipes" site - as the site’s name promises, this is a very easy recipe to prepare. Kroocrew, the author of this recipe, did an excellent job of explaining the the preparation steps, so I will not repeat them here. However, I did change a few of the ingredients, so I will list them here.
To steam the buns you will need a bamboo steamer like the one pictured on the right... These steamer baskets are very affordable - I paid about $10 for mine at Amazon.com. Original Ingredients List: Filling:
I leave out the diced mushrooms, and add ½ cup of soaked TVP, a bundle (a third of a package) of soaked and chopped bean threads, and a minced carrot (that I then cook along with the onions). Of course, one can can change this according to one’s tastes...
Dough:
I make very few changes here - I swap whole wheat flour for the all purpose and cake flours, olive oil for the margarine, and water for the soy milk - the only other change is that I add about a teaspoon of salt (as Kroocrew accidentally leaves it out of the ingredient list, though it is called for in the instructions). The instructions are very straight forward, but feel free to email me if you need more pointers... Enjoy - this is a fun project!
