JJ Towler's Chocolate Chip Cookies
A recipe contribution from JJ Towler, Charlottesville, VA
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/4 cups sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 package (12 oz.) semisweet chocolates (or dark chocolate)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (recommend black walnuts )
Cream butter and shortening. Add sugars, eggs and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly. Stir in chocolates and nuts. Put cookie dough in refrigerator overnight to chill.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8 minutes – THEN switch the cookie sheets and bake 2 more minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes before removing. This prevents their crumbling and adds to their crispness.
This is also good recipe to make a double batch and freeze until needed.
